Marion County, West Virginia is located in the heart of the Hi-Tech Corridor along Interstate 79. The area is approximately 90 miles south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; 140 miles north of Charleston, WV; and 230 miles east of Washington DC. The county is 310 square miles and Fairmont serves as the county seat.
Marion County is within a 500 mile radius of one-half of the nation’s population. Three of the nation’s four largest metropolises Philadelphia (1,463,281), Chicago (2,842,518), and New York City (8,008,278) - as well as the nation's capital, Washington DC (572,059), reside in this area. West Virginia is accessible by six major interstates – I-79, I-68, I-70, I-64, I-77, and I-81. Many major routes also serve the area including US 250, US 19, US 73, WV 218, WV 310, and WV 119. The area’s strong transportation system contains 777 miles of roadway in the highway system. The interstate speed limit is 70 miles per hour unless otherwise posted. Welcome centers are staffed from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm year-round and the public facilities are open 24 hours. Rest areas are available round the clock, but are not staffed.
